Williamson Medical Center in Franklin welcomed its first baby of the year Tuesday morning with the birth of Anya Aryal. At a healthy eight pounds even, Anya was born at 10:22 a.m. Tuesday morning to Ambu Aryal-Pokhrel and Sumit Aryal of Franklin.

“We chose Williamson Medical Center because it’s so close to our house now, and a friend had told us how great the care was,” Aryal-Pokhrel said. “I’ve really appreciated how helpful the staff have been, especially my Labor and Delivery nurses Carlena Pierce and Belinda Vickers. There just aren’t words to describe it.”

Born 11 days before her due date, baby Anya is the second child of the Franklin couple, and the first to be born at Williamson Medical Center.

Williamson Medical Center will also send the Ayral family off with a wagon full of gifts, as well as all the newborn essentials, as is tradition for the medical center to gift to the family of the first born baby of the year.

A registered nurse, Aryal-Pokhrel is a patient of Jacqueline Stafford, M.D., at Vanderbilt Franklin Women’s Center. Baby Anya was delivered by Alison Mullaly, M.D., who was on call for the OB-GYN practice over the holiday.

“It was wonderful to deliver a healthy baby girl on New Year’s Day,” Mullaly said. “I wish her and her family all the best going into 2019.”

Founded in 1958 by Dr. J.O. Walker, Williamson Medical Center has more than 600 physicians represent more than 70 medical specialties and subspecialties.
