Wet weather appears to be the trend for weekend, no flooding expected

Rain, rain and more rain.

That pretty much sums up the forecast for Middle Tennessee this weekend, according to the Nashville office of the National Weather Service.

“It stinks that we’ve been so dry the last couple of weeks and there are all these outdoor activities this weekend [that will be affected by the rain],” said Scott Unger, a meteorologist with the NWS. “And, of course, starting Tuesday it’s going to be dry for a week.”

Unger said the rain, which started Thursday, should last into Monday.

“We’re expecting anywhere from 2 to 4 inches, but that’s going to be pretty much spread over the whole weekend,” he said. “That’s good news because it’s not all coming at one time and it’s why we’re not expecting any flash flooding. But it will definitely serve to help folks in the yard and the garden, and to keep temperatures down, too.”

Though there aren’t any big festivals scheduled for Williamson County this weekend, there are outdoor activities that will either go on regardless of the weather or be rescheduled.

The Swanky Plank vintage and handmade marketplace that was to be held this weekend at Rippavilla in Spring Hill has been rescheduled for July 18-20 due to the forecast. That’s the same fate for The Hunt event in Leiper’s Fork, which will now be held Sept. 13-15. Friday night’s Franklin Art Scene, however, will go on rain or shine.

CMA Fest is also taking place this weekend in downtown Nashville. Unger said the main concern for anyone heading there is the possibility of thunderstorms.

“If you’re going to any of the activities downtown, then pay attention to the officials that are on the ground out there,” he said. “They’re going to alert you to any incoming thunderstorms. And be aware of where you need to go ahead of time in order to take shelter from any lighting that may be occurring.”

Unger said rain chances will range from 60% to 90% throughout the weekend.
