The Franklin Special School District benefited from the United Way of Williamson County’s Day of Action Friday as scores of volunteers came to three of the district’s schools to help to spruce up for the upcoming 2019-20 school year.

Around 200 volunteers signed up for the special day of pitching in that fell on June 21, the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. They worked at Poplar Grove Elementary, Poplar Grove Middle and Freedom Intermediate schools, lending hands in window cleaning, painting, general cleaning, landscaping and other assignments

“We appreciate our partnership with the United Way and the willingness of local businesses to release their employees to participate in this Day of Action,” said Susannah Gentry, communications specialist for FSSD. “Our schools truly belong to the community and it is very nice to have community members in them giving so generously of their time and talents.”

Companies represented were Franklin Synergy Bank, Aetna, Scott Insurance, Tractor Supply Company, Delek, Bank Director, Publix, Reliant Bank, Bank of America, Target, CBL Properties, Crye Leike, BancorpSouth, Cornerstone Financial Credit Union, Journal Communications, McFarlan Group, Nail Bar, Williamson County Government, Hilton as well as other community volunteers.

Day of Action harnesses the volunteer spirit and exists to encourage United Way of Williamson County’s corporate partners to take action in their community. It maximizes the impact of volunteering by tackling large-scale service projects that provide various benefits to nonprofit agencies, and this year focused on the FSSD schools.

Day of Action is an annual global call to action organized by United Way Worldwide.
