Jorge Gonzalez, son of Elsa Larragoiti Romo and Jorge Gonzalez Avelino, is a sophomore at Centennial High School and this week’s Student of the Week.
He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Amigos: Spanish Ambassadors, Latino Achieves, and the Science Olympiad Club. In addition to participating, Gonzalez also founded the Amigos: Spanish Ambassadors at CHS.
Science and research are Gonzalez’s biggest passions. “I like learning and discovering new things about the universe and its mysteries.”
His favorite class at CHS is Chemistry. “I am really interested in how the smallest particles and their interaction have an effect in everything around us,” he said.
His English teacher, Julia Culver, said of him, “He is the student who has organized the ambassador program to have a Spanish speaker in classrooms where translation might be helpful. He is very organized and has done an amazing job getting this program running.”
Someone that Gonzalez said he is inspired by and looks up to is Albert Einstein. “[He is] one of the most important scientists in history and his discoveries changed the way scientists saw the universe.”
As he gets ready to graduate in a couple of years, Gonzalez said he is aiming to go to Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
