Spring Hill releases priority list: widening Highway 31 at the top

Widening U.S. Highway 31 to four lanes is the number one priority for Spring Hill according to a new survey of the Board of Mayor and Alderman released by the city Thursday.

Mayor Rick Graham said Thursday the priority list created by the survey is still a work in progress and needs tweaking. Other issues may make more sense to go ahead and do more urgently, he said.

One of those is the expansion or building a new library. Graham said the library should be farther up the list because work has already been done on the project.

“We’ve got to get the library back in there,” he said. “I don’t know how it didn’t get in there.”

There are some projects on the list higher up than the library that make no sense to start before the library project, he added. For example, The Crossings’ north and south exits are ranked higher. But, fiscally, only one of those exits will probably be considered at this time.

The city’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen priority list is as follows:

1. U.S. Highway 31 widening

2. The Crossings south exit

3. Interchange at Buckner Road

4. City Hall expansion

5. New police station

6. Tom Lunn Road widening

7. Buckner Road widening

8. Buckner Lane widening

9. The Crossings north exit

10. Mahlon Moore school campus – road construction/land purchase

11. Heritage Bypass

12. New library

13. Port Royal roundabout

14. Police gun range

15. Baseball or softball complex

16. Peter Jenkins Greenway Phase 2

17. Evans Park Renovation

18. Harvey Park Greenway

19. Soccer complex

20. Rippavilla walking trails

21. Peter Jenkins Greenway Phase 3

22. Disc golf course
