SPRING FLING: CPA, Nolensville, GCA baseball survive elimination games

Below are updates from the Spring Fling baseball tournament.

Christ Presbyterian Academy set for state finals

The CPA Lions will get a chance to win a state title Thursday.

The team held Goodpasture scoreless 7-0 to advance to the D-II A state finals to get another game in with Christian Academy of Knoxville.

Mr. Baseball finalist Chris Odom had two RBIs, a run and a hit in the game.

CAK bested CPA Tuesday 4-3 in a close contest, and will face the Lions once more with hardware on the line.

The game is set for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at MTSU.

If CPA wins, they’ll play again at 3:00 p.m. for the championship.

Nolensville baseball to face Covington again after Elizabethton win

The Nolensville baseball team started out Wednesday in difficult fashion but still emerged from Day Two of Spring Fling victorious.

The team got a 4-3 win against Elizabethton in its second game of the day to stay in the Class AA state tournament.

Pitcher Dawson Conder got the win, and had a run, two hits and an RBI on the night.

A rematch with Covington awaits, who blasted the Knights 12-4 in Nolensville’s first contest of the day.

The semifinals rematch is set for Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Blackman High School.

If Nolensville wins that game, they’ll play Covington again at 4:30 p.m. since the latter won the first game, creating a best-of-two series.

The winner of the 4:30 game advances to the state finals at MTSU on Friday.

Grace Christian Academy tops Loretto for second time to get to semis

In similar fashion to Nolensville, GCA baseball got another shot at staying in the Class A tournament by facing an old opponent.

The team bested Loretto 7-2 Wednesday evening to advance to the semifinals round and get another shot at Trinity Christian.

Baylor Jones had three RBIs in the contest and a hit, while Carson Ford had two RBIs and a hit and Grant Solomon had an RBI, two hits and pitched the win.

The team will face Trinity Christian again Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at MTCS. If GCA wins, they’ll play again at 4:30 p.m.

The victor of that 4:30 p.m. contest would advance to the Friday state finals at MTSU.
