The Shorter Chapel AME Church will continue their celebration of 150 years in Franklin with a “Raise the Roof” gospel event tonight.

The free worship night at the church, located at 225 Natchez Street, begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.

On Friday, the church will host their awards gala, also from 6 to 9 p.m. It will be at the Marriott Hotel, located at 700 Cool Springs Boulevard.

Tickets are $50. Call 615-790-6611 for more information.

One of the oldest African-American churches in the state of Tennessee, Shorter Chapel is listed on the Tennessee historic register and the National Register of Historic Places.

This spring, Mayor Ken Moore joined Bishop Jeffrey Nathaniel Leath in unveiling a sign recognizing the church’s achievement.
