Franklin High School head coach Donnie Webb has named his starting quarterback for his opening game Friday night, when the Rebels host Siegel at 7 p.m.
Sophomore Joe Critchlow (6-3, 180) will get the nod, taking over the job from graduated QB Matt Kuivinen, now at Western Kentucky. Critchlow was leading the battle with junior Ross Gardner, and then an injury to Gardner finalized the decision, Webb said.
“Joe is a good young quarterback,” Webb said. “He has great potential. We must allow him to be successful early and let him gain experience. Once he gets his feet wet, he is going to be a good one.”
Gardner suffered a college bone injury and will be out four more weeks. Critchlow will be backed up by Kenneth Garrett.
Kuivinen threw for 2,359 yards with 20 touchdowns in Franklin’s second straight district runner-up season in 2011.
