Franklin Police have identified a man found dead on a driveway in Franklin early this morning as 37-year-old Devillas Dodson of Columbia.
Officers responded to 234 Chestnut Lane shortly after 2 a.m., after receiving a call from a resident of the home that someone had been shot. Arriving officers found Dodson laying outside on the driveway and initiated CPR. Paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced Dodson dead.
Dodson’s residence was in Columbia, but Franklin Police Lieutenant Charles Warner said Dodson used to live in Franklin, and has family connections in the town.
Detectives are questioning residents of the Chestnut Lane home that Dodson was visiting when he was shot.
Warner said the last homicide that occurred in Franklin was in January of 2015, when 54-year-old Michael Buchanan was assaulted on Acton Street and beaten to death.
Police reported that “an intense police investigation is under way” to determine who shot and killed Dodson.
Franklin Police are urging anyone in the area with home surveillance cameras to check their recordings for anything that might help with the investigation, especially between the hours of 1:30 and 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 25.
“These days, that’s one of the main things we try to look at,” said Warner. “Something as simple as a car driving by at 2:02 in the morning can be critical to identify a killer.”
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads police to Dodson’s killer.
