PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nolensville’s Dooley runs for monster debut

In all of Williamson County football in week one, no one can claim to have put up the numbers of Nolensville’s senior tailback Colton Dooley.

The Knights’ bell cow racked up five touchdowns and 180 yards on 22 carries to power the team past Fayetteville in their road opener. They won that game 41-28, giving them an early victory on the schedule.

This startling performance earns Dooley the Home Page Media Group’s Player of the Week honors to start the season for WillCo football.

“He’s a tough-nose kid,” head coach Paul Derrick said of Dooley after the team’s jamboree win earlier this month. “He’s the type of kid you want to coach. He gives you everything he’s got. He’s got good vision; runs the ball hard.

“We want to give that ball to 15, and let him do his thing when we need to.”

Nolensville High will be relying on more from Dooley as the season goes on.

The Knights face Page in their home opener Friday night.

YOUNG QBS EARN HONORABLE MENTIONS

Brentwood quarterback Cade Granzow helped lead the Brentwood Bruins past rival Franklin 17-14 in his first win behind center.

“We knew he had an incredible ceiling,” Brentwood head coach Ron Crawford said of Granzow’s night in our game recap. “I think tonight went a long way in getting him more confident in what we’re doing, more command of it. He’s still got to learn and grow with it, but you can see he’s got a live arm, [and a better] understanding of our offense.”

BGA quarterback  Nick Septimphelter threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns in his debut for the Wildcats as they trounced Forrest 42-7.

“He’s a very intelligent football player with a big arm,” said BGA head coach Roc Batten in our season preview of Septimphelter. “We’re going to put a lot of responsibility on the QB to make decisions at the line.”

Granzow and Septimphelter’s first big wins are enough to make them our Honorable Mentions to open the year.
