Lt. Col. (Ret.) Michael Glen Dunning, age 71, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on February 24, 2019.
He was a 1966 Graduate of Franklin High School and received his Bachelors Degree from Liberty University. He entered in the U.S. Marines and retired from the U.S. Army after 33 years of service. During his tenure, he worked at the Pentagon. He also served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam conflict. After retirement, he served as director of the Knoxville National Cemetery. Mike was an avid classic car collector.
Preceded in death by wife, Kaye Sue Fowler Dunning; parents, Thomas and Louise Poole Dunning. Survived by: loving wife of 5+ years, Linda McArthur Dunning; daughters, Kendra (Mike) Cloyd and Jennifer (Scott) Graff; son, Scot (Jere Lynn) Douglass; stepchildren, Leah Jones and Jennifer (Rob) Rice; brothers, Thomas Dunning and Steve (Pattie) Dunning; sisters, Kendra (Jerry) Tune and Teresa (Joey) Fuqua; grandchildren, Sarah Holcombe, Amanda Cowen, Courtney and Kenleigh Douglass, Rachel Robertson, Chaz Savage, Caden and Taylor Graff; stepgrandchildren, Sarah Sironon, Claire Gosney and Emma Jones; step great grandchildren, Stella and Scarlett Sironen and other loving family members.
Funeral services will be conducted beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, 3009 Columbia Ave., Franklin, with Jim Taylor officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. on Sunday prior to the funeral. Graveside services will be conducted 9 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2019, at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors.
