Irma Sedberry O’Connell Woodroof died March 6, 2019, after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents Abner Preston Sedberry and Virginia Lavender Myers Sedberry and by her husband, Thomas L. O’Connell. She later married Wheeler Woodroof of Franklin, who also is deceased.
She is survived by her children, Patricia O’Connell (Bruce Pfleger), of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael O’Connell (Teresa Safford), of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and Matthew O’Connell (Kay), of Franklin, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Will Pfleger, Erin Pfleger, Greyson O’Connell, Claire O’Connell, Carter O’Connell, Benjamin O’Connell, Emily O’Connell; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Irma spent her childhood in Nashville, Woodbine, and Cheatham County.
She graduated from Central High School and was a proud alumna who regularly attended the school’s annual reunion.
Irma thoroughly enjoyed being with her friends, especially her lifelong connection with her bowling team, which bowled together for over 50 years. She also was active in the Stones River Woman’s Club and several bridge clubs.
Irma had a 20-year successful career with the AT&T/Bell Telephone system, and after retirement she thrived on spending time with her 7 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/ or Central High School Alumni Association.
