Corey Alan High, age 43, passed away on July 12, 2019.
Corey was born in Michigan and made his way to Middle Tennessee via Indiana. He graduated from Brentwood High School, where he played on the basketball team. Friends may not remember his jump shot, but they will certainly remember his smile that lit up the room. His love of The Grateful Dead and roots music and an allure for the mountains led him to Leadville, Colorado. He later returned to Tennessee, where he graduated from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in nutrition. Shortly after finishing college, he moved to Knoxville, where he started a family. In his spare time, he enjoyed passing his love of food and cooking on to others, often with a grill ablaze or a turkey frying for Thanksgiving and probably engaged in a story filled with laughter. This laughter and love were infectious in times with his children, his family and his many friends. Everyone was important to Corey, and he had no reservations for strangers. His friends describe him as extraordinary, charismatic and something special. Corey spent his final years in Boone, North Carolina.
Corey leaves behind a son, Cannon Robert High; daughter, Kennedy Steele High; and their mother Karly High; mother, Linda High; father Gary High and his wife, Jo; sister Kristin Howell; nephews Justin and Evan; and their father, Eric.
A celebration of Corey’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on September 7, 2019 at Brentwood United Methodist Church. There will be a visitation immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to a college fund for Corey’s children, Cannon and Kennedy; checks for the college fund should be made out to Linda High, Trustee. Contributions may also be donated to Freedom Farm Ministries, P.O. Box 153, Boone, NC 28607. An online guestbook is available at AustinFuneralService.com, (615)377-0775.
