Albert “Gene” Dunigan, age 65 of Franklin, Tenn., passed away Dec. 22, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He is originally from Vicksburg, Miss., but spent most of his adult life in Ridgeland, Miss. Mr. Dunigan and his wife moved to Franklin 3 years ago. He is preceded in death by his parents, Regena Holland and Albert Clinton Dunigan. He is survived by closet friend and loving wife, Debra Hawkins Dunigan of Franklin, Tenn.; daughter, Ashley (Brad) Anderson of Columbia, Miss.; grandchild, Cole Williams; brothers, Danny (Denise) Dunigan of Vicksburg, Miss.; Billy (RaeAnn) Dunigan of Millington, Tenn.; sister, Pat Anderson of Allen, Tex.; and several nieces and nephews.
Gene graduated from Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss., in 1998 with summa cum laude honors and an Academic Achievement Award from the Division of Business Administration. He was particularly proud of this accomplishment because he returned to college in his 40s. Gene was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting wild game in Mississippi and Arizona. Driving his tractor and working on his hunting property were a significant part of his life for years. Another great joy throughout his life was riding motorcycles with his wife and friends. His occupation until retirement was in sales and operation positions in variety of the home building business but his interest in following and investing in the stock market continued until his death.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 30, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home, Madison, Miss. Visitation will be at 12:30-2 p.m. and the service will follow at 2-3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
