After about 10 years of working as a designer from her home while also raising her children, Jill Johnson decided it was time to both expand her business and put down more solid roots.

So she left her home and set up shop in another house.

She opened Storehouse no. 9 in a quaint little house near Bicentennial Park in downtown Franklin. Her business is a home interiors store, carrying everything from upholstery, lighting, art, pottery, accessories and gifts. She also continues to offer design services.

“I did design work as I could while raising our children,” said Johnson, who moved to Franklin with her husband 23 years ago. “And now that they’re all grown up and getting married or going to college, I just decided to do something to kind of have the next chapter. And my husband was very supportive of the idea of a design studio/retail store.”

Guitarist Steve Krenz and a table full of food were just part of the grand opening for Storehouse no. 9.

Storehouse no. 9 opened April 24, and Johnson held a grand opening Thursday evening.

“I was just blown away,” she said of Thursday’s grand opening. “We had cars up and down the street. I was so thrilled with the turnout.”

Johnson said the “Storehouse” part of her business’ name comes from the 28th chapter of Deuteronomy, in which verse 12 says “The Lord will open for you his rich storehouse. …” The no. 9 is in reference to her side of the family, which has nine members.

“I think the thing that sets us apart is our bright, clean and fresh aesthetic,” Johnson said of her store.

Storehouse no. 9 has a website, and Johnson said it will continue to expand and offer more products online.

The store is located at 320 Fourth Ave. N., and is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The phone number is 615-484-8922.
