Williamson County Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney turned himself into the Sheriff’s Department this evening following the filing of a simple assault charge against him earlier this afternoon.
A statement from Williamson County Schools said, “This misdemeanor charge apparently stems from an incident which took place Tuesday at Franklin High School while he and others were assisting a student in crisis.”
Simple assault is defined as the attempt to cause serious physical harm to another individual, or conduct that causes an individual to be in fear or apprehension of an imminent battery.
According to the School System statement, Looney went to the Sheriff’s Office to allow for the necessary paperwork to be completed.
“There were multiple witnesses on hand who dispute this accusation of simple assault, and we believe this charge is without merit and will not stand.”
No information was available beyond the statement. This is a developing story.
