Andres Casella is this week’s Jet’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week.
He is a freshman at Page High School and a member of the boys tennis team. He competes in singles and doubles and said that his biggest accomplishment is “beating older opponents that are more experienced and better than” he is.
Casella said that he started playing tennis after receiving encouragement from his father, who also played.
When asked what inspires him to continue training and competing he said, “It’s fun and I like to practice so I can be the best I can be.”
PHS Head Tennis Coach Eric Barnes said of Casella, “Andres is an overall athlete! He challenges himself as a freshman playing at No. 2 singles and his results speak for themselves. He is easily coachable and truly wants to get better!”
One of his biggest role models is professional basketball player Kyrie Irving. He said he looks up to him because he is a good person and plays his sport well.
As he is only a freshman, Casella is currently undecided about his collegiate plans. However, he said that no matter what, he would like to continue playing tennis or basketball.
