Haylee Clawson, daughter of Marlaina and Steve Clawson, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza Athlete of the Week.
She is a sophomore at Page High School and a member of the girls tennis team. She is #2 in singles and doubles.
Last season, Clawson won doubles with her partner, Elli Pace, against Brentwood High School. She also won singles against Centennial High School.
She got her start in the sport just before her sixth grade year.
“Two weeks before sixth grade started, I watched tennis on TV and I said, ‘I want to play tennis this year.’”
And that’s exactly what she did.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “I’m inspired by my teammates because no matter how you do, they will always be supportive.”
PHS Head Tennis Coach Eric Barnes said of Clawson, “Haylee has shown tremendous growth in her sophomore year at Page and is very easy to coach. On a very young team, she is an incredible role model and is an invaluable addition to PHS tennis.”
One of Clawson’s biggest role models and inspirations is actress Blake Lively. She said she looks up to Lively because “she is not afraid to be herself.”
After graduating from PHS in a couple of years, she plans to attend a college in the south. She hopes on pursuing a degree in either chemistry or athletic training.
