Kate Katzman, daughter of Rich and Robin Katzman, is our Jet’s Pizza Female Athlete of the Week.
Katzman is a senior at Independence High School and a member of the varsity girls soccer team.
She got her start in soccer after watching her three older brothers play. “I wanted to be just like them,” she said.
This season alone, Katzman has accomplished a lot. She has had one goal and three assists in four games, all after returning from an injury. She has also had one goal and two assists against Centennial alone.
Girls Soccer Coach, David Cordero said, “ Kate has started the season demonstrating a great will to make our team better every day through her leadership and skill. Her dynamic play has been hard for opponents to handle and I look forward to seeing Kate reach some great career milestones for her and her team this season.”
When asked what inspires her to training compete, she gave all the credit to God. She said that she is “taking the opportunity God has given” her and “trying to glorify him on and off the field.”
Her role models are her three older brothers, Tim, Kent and Clay. She says that they have done a great job of leading and pushing her down the right path. She also admires their ability to find humor in everything.
One of Katzman’s teachers, Brandi Mangrum, said of her, “ Kate is such a pleasure to have in class. She brings a positive attitude, incredible work ethic, and a true enthusiasm for learning.”
After finishing up her senior year, she will be headed to Garner-Webb University, where she is officially committed. After college, she hopes to end up working in the mission field.
