JET’S PIZZA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Independence High School

McKyan “Mac” James

Mac James, son of McKinley and Tara James, is our Jet’s Pizza Male Athlete of the Week.

He is a senior at Independence High School and a member of the varsity boys basketball team.

He plays the position of point guard for the team.

Last year, he had 15 points per game and five assists per game and made it to the 2017 State Tournament as a junior.

James said he has been playing basketball for as long as he can remember. “A ball has always been in my hands,” he said.

When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said, “First, I love to play the game of basketball. Secondly, I have a lot of family who push me to go as far as I can in basketball because they always say the ball will stop bouncing someday.”

Boys basketball coach Jarrett Jones said of James, “‘Mac’ is a highly skilled athlete and a joy to coach. He is a great young man on and off the guard. I am excited to see what the future holds for him.”

One of James’ biggest role models and inspirations is his father, McKinley. He said he really looks up to him because he provides for the family and is always dependable.

After graduating from IHS this year, he plans to go to college to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals. “I would love to play basketball overseas or become a pharmacist,” he said.
