Amanda Haylett, daughter of Todd and Shannon Haylett, is our Jet’s Pizza Female Athlete of the week.
She is a junior at Independence High School and a member of the varsity girls basketball team.
She plays the position of shooting guard and small forward for the team. As an athlete at Independence High, Haylett said her biggest highlight is not only playing varsity girls basketball, but also captain of the varsity basketball cheer team.
Specifically this season, she said scoring 15 points against Siegel was her best game.
Haylett got her start in the sport at the age of five, when her father decided to sign her up for a recreational team.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “to be the best you can be and never settle for anything less.”
IHS girls basketball coach, Whitney Baird said of Haylett, “Amanda is a solid player on both ends of the court. Her hustle and heart are fun to watch.”
One of her biggest inspirations and role models is her father, Todd.
“He has been my coach since I was five and has gotten me where I am today,”she said.
She is currently undecided about where she would like to attend college.
