Maddie McGaha, daughter of Stephanie and Daniel McGaha, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
She is a senior at Franklin High School and a member of the varsity girls volleyball team. She plays the position of middle and outside for the team. This season, she has had 21 blocks and 34 aces.
McGaha grew up around volleyball, with her mother coaching. She started playing club volleyball at the age of 13 and said she has been on the top team ever since.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “I love the sportsmanship that is needed to be a good team, and the connections and friendships you make as you work and play with your teammates is lifelong.”
One of her biggest role models is her mother, Stephanie.
“She never gives up on anything and she always has my back,” she said. “She’s not afraid to speak her mind, and she’s helped shape me into the player and person I want to be.”
FHS Head Volleyball Coach Amber Holzer said of McGaha:
Maddie stepped up into a new position throughout the majority of our season. Her willingness to do what she could for the team was outstanding. During the District Tournament, Maddie was able to play her primary position for one set, and was outstanding in her role. Being flexible while remaining effective in multiple positions this year not only aided in the team’s success, but speaks to the type of player Maddie is today!
After graduating from FHS this year, she is planning to attend college to study either biomechanical or biomedical engineering.
