Meera Unni, daughter of Ramaprasad and Purnima Unni, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
She is a junior at Franklin High School and a member of the girls tennis team.
She competes in singles and doubles. This season, she won all singles matches except for one against Brentwood and was undefeated in doubles matches.
Unni said that she started playing tennis in middle school and owes her enjoyment of the sport to her father, who helped her learn how to play.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “When I see Serena Williams and Roger Federer compete every day, their playing inspires me to become the best athlete of my abilities.”
Her biggest role models are her parents, Ramaprasad and Purnima.
“They do so much for me and they each have a lot going on in their own lives to [be able to] make big sacrifices for my life,” she said. “They do so much for our family and I am beyond grateful.”
FHS Head Tennis Coach Matthew Lacheta said of Unni, “Meera Unni always balances a plethora of academia and her tennis pursuits. Her attitude and leadership are an incredible asset to the Franklin Tennis Team and the Franklin High School Community.”
After graduating from FHS next year, she plans to attend college to pursue a degree in Business.
