Read Cox, son of Jason and Suzanne Cox, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week.
He is a sophomore at Franklin High School and a member of the boys tennis team.
He started playing tennis after encouragement from his parents. He said that at first, it was not his favorite, but that he really ended up liking it.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said, “I like to have fun and also be challenged. The bigger the challenge, the more fun it is.” He added, “It reminds me we’re all human, which makes me happy; I can’t explain why.”
One of his biggest role models is his father, Jason.
“He always seems to know what really matters,” he said.
FHS Head Tennis Coach Matthew Lacheta said of Cox, “Read displays everything you want out of a player and a teammate. His positive attitude and respectful and kind heart are evident on and off the court. He has been the most consistent boys player all year and went 4-0 in singles this past week including the sole win against Brentwood for the boys squad.”
After graduating from FHS in a couple of years, he said he would like to go to college to pursue a career that would “make life better,” although he does not know what that looks like just yet.
