Alex Ray, son of Penny and Dale Ray, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week.
He is a senior at Franklin High School and a member of the baseball team. He plays the position of first base for the team.
In a recent game, he achieved one RBI and one run.
Ray said before he ever actually started playing baseball, he and his father would go to the park and throw. “It’s been uphill ever since,” he said of his baseball career.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said that he is always striving to make it to the next level. He also noted pride as a large factor and “wanting to win” games.
One of his biggest role models and motivators is Brandon Inge, a former professional baseball player.
“He worked hard at what he did and was pretty successful,” he said.
FHS Head Baseball Coach Jon Whipple said of Ray, “Alex has been a great teammate for us these last three years. He has worked really hard to develop into a very good hitter and for us. He is always putting a great effort…”
After graduating from RHS, he is planning to attend a community college for his first two years of college, and then move on to either Middle Tennessee State University, East Tennessee State University, Austin Peay State University or Western Kentucky University. He plans to major in business.
