Cassie Hayes, daughter of Randall and Renee Hayes, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
She is a senior at Franklin High School and captain of the girls softball team. Her batting average is currently .800 with an on-base percentage of .857. She has had a total of two homeruns so far and one grand slam in a game against Centennial.
Hayes said that she pretty much grew up on sports fields because both of her brothers played sports.
“I wanted to be like them so when I got old enough, I jumped right in and have loved it ever since,” she said.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said each season, she picks out someone that she wants to “play for.”
“This season, I chose to play for my dad,” she said. “A month or so ago he found out he had a tumor in his leg. I was devastated and didn’t know how to react. My goal this season is to play for him and make him happy while he is going through this.”
Hayes’ father is also one of her biggest inspirations and role models.
“He’s a fighter and he’s tough,” she said. “I plan to play the game the same way.”
FHS Head Softball Coach Lyndsey Consiglio said of Hayes, “Cassie is a leader on and off the field. Her stellar defense and power at the plate leads the Lady Rebels. In our season opener, Cassie was one for one with two walks and a grand slam.”
After graduating from FHS this year, she plans to go to Freed-Hardeman University to further her academic and softball career.
