Nate Arend, son of Mark and Melissa Arend, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza Male Athlete of the Week.
He is a junior at Franklin High School and a member of the swim team. This season, he qualified for State in the 100 backstroke.
Arend starting swimming when he was only two years old.
“My mom signed me up for swim lessons,” he recalled. “Then I joined our neighborhood swim team and have been swimming” ever since.
He said that his biggest inspiration to stay motivated when training and competing is the feeling of satisfaction he gets when he tries his best.
One of his biggest role models is FHS Latin teacher, Mr. Leachman.
“Mr. Leachman is a truly genuine person, an excellent person and an inspirational thinker,” he said.
Arend describes himself as determined and loyal. FHS swim coach echoed those traits saying “Nate is truly an exceptional guy. He is kind, thoughtful, genuine and determined to see things through to the end. He works hard in practice and can accomplish anything he puts his mind to.”
After graduating from FHS next year, he plans to attend college to study aviation in order to one day become a pilot.
