Davis Bove, son of Marcy and Christopher Bove, is our Jet’s Pizza Male Athlete of the Week this week.
He is a junior at Centennial High School and a member of the varsity cross country team.
This season, he had a 4:12 time for the mile and a time of 15:47 in the 5k.
Bove started running competitively after running against his friend in the school wide mile run in elementary school. He said he did very poorly against his friend and knew that he wanted to get better.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said that “the idea of going head to head with other people and having fun racing” pushes him forward.
One of his biggest role models and influences is Mr. Sawyer, a teacher at CHS.
“He works hard for what he wants and teaches children not to let anyone get in the way of your goals,” he said. “[He] is very wise and shares his wisdom to his students every day.”
CHS cross country coach Marcy Bove said of him:
Davis is a multi-sport athlete balancing cross country and Triathlon training with a full academic load. As the number one varsity runner, Davis set the new school record this year and finished first in the Region qualifying to compete in the State Championship. Davis ended his season as a 2017 All-State Gold Team AAA athlete with a 13th place finish at State.
After finishing at CHS next year, Bove plans to attend Auburn University, Virginia Tech or LSU. He plans to run competitively wherever he ends up.
