Ava Distefano, daughter of Joe and Kami Distefano, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
She is a freshman at Centennial High School and a member of the girls soccer team.
She plays the position of forward for the team.
Distefano got her start in the sport at the young age of three. Her soccer ability accelerated quickly as she joined a travel team when she was six years old. She said that since then, she has not stopped playing.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “My love for the game, the environment, and my teammates.”
Her biggest role models are her parents, Joe and Kami.
“They are very supportive and help me get to all my soccer practices,” she said.
Distefano’s soccer coach said of her, “Ava is not only an amazing soccer player, but she is a true competitor. Whether it is a game or practice, she gives 100 percent. During the games, she gets so much attention from other teams but still finds ways to make plays. She is a force on both sides of the ball and is the leading goal scorer. What’s even more impressive is she is just a freshman.”
When she’s not on the soccer field, she enjoys spending time with friends and going to church.
Although she is only in her freshman year, Distefano said she knows she wants to play soccer in college. She plans to study nutrition science or physical therapy.
