William Xie, son of Lihua Chen and Ling Xie, is our Jet’s Pizza Male Athlete of the Week.
He is a senior at Battle Ground Academy and a member of the varsity boys cross country team.
Out of his many accomplishments in the sport, he said one that he is the most proud of is setting his personal record of 28:38 at the regional race at Steeplechase.
Xie is an exchange student at BGA. When he enrolled, he was looking for a sport to try out and said cross country seemed like an easy sport to pick up.
“The only things needed are a pair of shoes and the desire to run,” he said.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said, “getting better everyday and training myself to be resilient.”
One of his biggest role models and inspirations is his fellow teammate and friend, Henry.
“He is one of the oldest members on the team. Henry went from being unable to swing his right arm to breaking the school record. His hard work and endurance inspire me,” Xie said.
Outside of running, he said he is a huge movie and TV buff. Some of his favorite shows at the moment are Stranger Things and Game of Thrones. His favorite movie? He said it would have to be Reservoir Dogs.
After finishing at BGA, he plans to attend college to study engineering and political science.
