Lindsay Phelps, daughter of Andrew and Jackie Phelps, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Varsity Girls Cross Country Team. This season, she finished eighth at the DII-A Middle Region meet, qualified for the State Cross Country Meet, and was named all-Region.
Before moving to Franklin, Phelps and her family lived in Chattanooga; this is where she started her running career. She started running both track and cross country in third grade and has been competing ever since.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “to always try to improve my personal best time.”
One of her biggest role models and inspirations is Wendi Parker, an art teacher and cross country coach at BGA. Phelps said of her:
Wendi Parker was my art teacher last year and also one of the coaches of our team. Ms. Parker is not only a great runner and coach, she is also someone who I look up to every day. In class or on the track, she is extremely talented, very smart, and always hard working, while being one of the most thoughtful and caring people I know. She is passionate about the things she does and is persistent. I think that is so important. One day I hope I can be an influence to others like she has so kindly been to me.
Phelps, only a freshman, is currently undecided on her college choice. However, she said she thinks she might want to continue running wherever she ends up.
