Hot Shots jump rope team scores medals, ribbons at world championship

The Hot Shots of Tennessee jump rope team, based in Franklin, distinguished itself in competition at the World Jump Rope Championship held at the University of Central Florida in Orlando from July 2-6.

The team’s 12 competitors brought home a total of 11 medals and 1 ribbon, and they earned an additional 22 top-10 finishes in a field of approximately 900 competitors from 25 countries.  The Hot Shots are all students in Williamson County Schools: Hunters Bend Elementary School, Grassland Middle School, Spring Station Middle School, and Franklin High School.

The World Jump Rope Federation divides competitors into three divisions — Novice, for jumpers who have been competing for 2 years or less; Junior, for athletes 14 years old and younger; and

Senior, for those 15 years old and older.  Medals are awarded for 1st through 3rd place, and in the Novice Division, ribbons are awarded for 4th and 5th place.

Hot Shots won the following awards:

1st place – Senior Division, Team Freestyle, mixed 16 years old and younger

*Their gold medal performance advanced them to the Grand World Championship, where they took 3rd place overall in this event (without age divisions).

Members of the Hot Shots attend Hunters Bend Elementary School, Grassland Middle School, Spring Station Middle School, and Franklin High School. The team is coached by Lisa Arnold.

Members of the team have previously earned gold medals at the World Jump Rope Championship, appeared on the nationally syndicated Pickler & Ben television show, and represented the sport of jump rope at the Arnold Sports Festival USA, also known as the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival.
