H&M opens second Nashville-area location in Cool Springs

Sitting down on the khaki-colored floor of the Cool Springs Galleria Mall, Hope Hartwigsen and her niece, Maria Hood, waited more than 12 hours Wednesday for the H&M store opening in the chain’s newest location.

Hartwigsen said that they slept in her car and entered the mall’s glass doors as soon as it opened Wednesday morning.

“My niece slept great, but I woke up every two hours to make sure everything was all right,” she said. “And to make sure no one was lining up outside.”

The two decided to join in the grand opening fun before Harwigsen heads to Africa with her Peace Corps assignment next month. In staying there so long, Hood had her eye on a dress that she already knows she wants.

“I just really like H&M,” the 13-year-old Columbia Academy student said. “They have good styles. I love it. I am glad to do this with her. It’s awesome to do before she leaves.”

The Sweden-based store made its clothing lines available at noon for the 200 shoppers lined up outside the store. H&M arrived in the United States in 2000, and sells items for men, women and kids. It’s clothing ranges from just a few dollars to higher-end pieces as expensive in the $60 range. The store also sells accessories and shoes.

Amy Li, 25, of Bellevue, said she showed up much later than Hartwigsen and her niece.

“H&M is my favorite,” Li said. “I come here and always get something, and today I am looking for summer things. Their prices are reasonable, and their style is always up-to-date. They have a huge selection.”

Those who waited in the line had the opportunity to win gift cards valued at up to $300. Store management said they would pass out gift cards with a variety of amounts.

This H&M makes it the second in the Nashville area — the other is in Opry Mills.

Galleria store hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sunday stores are open from noon-6 p.m.
