Logan Brady’s two goals helped lift the Franklin Rebels to a 3-0 win at Page Friday.
The sophomore put his team up early in the first half after capitalizing on a pass from Christian Morales. Early in the second half, Brady found the back of the net after a feed from Braeden Mease.
“I saw an open lane and [Morales and Mease] put a good ball in that I was able to finish,” Brady said. “[Morales and Mease] can shoot, pass, defend the ball and they’ve got good feet. We’ve got a good squad.”
Franklin improved to 5-1-1 on the year with the victory.
Maintaining the lead was something Franklin had been stressing throughout the season after a few close matches.
“That’s the difference in the game,” Franklin head coach Mike Burgoyne said. “We talked about how we need to get that second or third goal, because if you leave it or you hang around 1-0, the last ten minutes are going to be very interesting. So, I was proud of [Brady] for getting those two goals early on.”
Soon after Brady’s second strike, Morales capped the scoring on an assist from Wilnes Ramey.
Page fell to 3-4-1 overall.
Ben Menko and Mason Hiskey split the game in goal for the Rebels, combining to put up a shutout.
“Mason had a great first half and then Ben made a great save on a penalty kick,” Burgoyne said. “We were very pleased with that.”
Franklin heads into the back half of April with three District 12-AAA matches remaining on the schedule. It will travel to Summit and then host Independence and Ravenwood.
“We’ve had some nagging injuries and sickness, just as every team has,” Burgoyne stated. “We want to be healthy these last couple weeks so that we can have a good stretch in our district.”
