Throughout the next few months, the Franklin Special School District will have eight repair, replace and renovate projects they will work to accomplish.
The district will work to complete most of the projects by the end of the school year.
Franklin Elementary School Renovation
Bid documents are complete. The bid date was moved to Feb. 16 to allow for more time.
Poplar Grove School/Freedom Middle School Roof
Poplar Grove’s roof work is at 80 percent complete while Freedom Middle is at 40 percent. Originally, the district wanted to see these projects completed between March and April. But now with weather and schedule adjustments to avoid odor issues, the new anticipate date for most of the work is April.
Freedom Middle School Parking Expansion
Soil infiltration and traffic studies were completed the week of Feb. 6. The district will submit the results to the City of Franklin, with progress pending the city’s review and design comments.
Central Office Annex Re-roof
Plans for the project were bid as a package between the roof and the generator project. After all bids were opened in January, the district then decided to do each as a stand alone project. FSSD will now open the project for another round of bids.
Central Office Annex Emergency Backup Generator
As explained the above, both bids were put together. The generator project will now go back out for a rebid.
Freedom Intermediate Stadium Bleacher Renovation
Demolition has started. Workers removed old fencing in the construction zone. Heavy equipment moved in at the beginning of February to take down the old bleachers. With the hope of good weather, the district intends to have them removed by the end of the month.
District Wide LED Lighting Upgrade
District officials report the project is substantially complete. Maintenance has been trained on the operation of sensors and replacement of bulbs under warranty.
Poplar Grove to Del Rio Pike Sidewalk
Franklin Special received the final design in early February. Right now, it’s under review for scope and scheduling purposes.
