Former CHS baseball player grabs ESPN top play nod

A former Centennial High School baseball player has drawn national attention this week when his highlight reel catch was voted number one on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10.

Franklin-native Tony Kemp, who plays for the Houston Astros’ minor league team Corpus Christi Hooks, made a diving catch in centerfield on Monday that quickly went viral all over the internet.

The Houston Chronicle reported that Kemp – usually a second basemen – was in his 10th start in the outfield as the team tried to fill the void of middle infielders in both the minor and major leagues.

Kemp played baseball and football for CHS before he graduated in 2009. He continued his athletic career at Vanderbilt University, and was drafted by the Astros in 2013 in the fifth-round.
