With the goal of helping students start the school year with needed supplies, the Patricia Hart Society of United Way of Williamson County, GraceWorks Ministries, Fairview Community Action Partnership and Bethesda United Methodist Church are collaborating on a school supply drive called “Stuff the Bus.”
Last year’s supply drive served more than 2,000 students county-wide. The public is encouraged to get involved by purchasing and donating school supplies.
This year, supplies that are especially needed are: three-ring binders (2 inch), safety scissors, highlighters, glue sticks, rulers and composition books (college or wide rule).
The public can drop off donated school supplies at the following locations: GraceWorks Ministries at 104 Southeast Parkway in Franklin, Middle Tennessee Electric at 2156 Edward Curd Lane in Franklin, or United Way’s office at 209 Gothic Court, Suite 107 in Franklin.
Local Publix stores will start their school supply collection drive in July and continue through early August. Supplies purchased and donated at Publix will go towards the Stuff the Bus effort.
Students are successful in school when they arrive prepared to learn. But many students in the Williamson County community struggle to get the basic supplies necessary to participate in the learning process. And for some, not having the right tools means they also don’t feel confident and motivated to learn.
The culmination of Stuff the Bus will be the distribution of donated school supplies to students at events on Saturday, July 30, in three locations. GraceWorks Ministries’ “The Big Backpack Giveaway” is from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. on the grounds of Liberty Elementary. FCAP’s “Back 2 School Bash” is from 10 a.m.-noon at Fairview High School. Bethesda United Methodist Church’s giveaway is from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at 4814 Bethesda Road in Thompsons Station.
All events are filled with activities, prizes and fun for the whole family.
