FRANKLIN TOMORROW
During its June 10 FrankTalks lecture, Franklin Tomorrow launched a community read as part of its Civic Book League, an outcome of the 2018 On The Table initiative.
The first selection of the Civic Book League is “The Blue Zones, Second Edition,” by Dan Buettner. According to bluezones.com, Buettner offers “9 Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest.
In The Blue Zones, a New York Times bestseller and featured on Oprah, Buettner has traveled the globe to uncover the best strategies for longevity found in the blue zones: places in the world where higher percentages of people enjoy remarkably long, full lives.
“In this dynamic book, he discloses the recipe, blending this unique lifestyle formula with the latest scientific findings to inspire easy, lasting change that may add years to your life. You’ll meet a 94-year-old farmer and self-confessed ‘ladies man’ in Costa Rica, a 102-year-old grandmother in Okinawa a 102-year-old Sardinian who hikes at least six miles a day, and others. By observing their lifestyles, Buettner’s team has identified critical everyday choices” according to the web site.
If you need to borrow a copy of the book, you can check out a copy from Franklin Tomorrow by calling the office at (615) 794-0998 to arrange pick-up. A limited number of copies have been purchased and book check-out is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Copies can be purchased at all major bookseller locations. If you would like to purchase two books and donate one to Franklin Tomorrow, we will handle the distribution to the community.
All books purchased by or donated to Franklin Tomorrow will be donated to Friends of Williamson County Public Library after the community-wide reading has been completed. You can also follow the Book League and participate in online discussions on its Facebook page or through its GoodReads group.
