One of the underappreciated stories in Williamson County football this season has been the steadiness of the Franklin Road Academy Panthers.
The team has maintained a 6-1 record, with a sole home loss to Trent Dilfer and the upstart Lipscomb Academy Mustangs under their belt.
The team is much better than its 2018 counterpart despite losing college talent like wideout Lance Wilhoite (Oregon) and defensive tackle Tymon Mitchell and super-productive running back Brogan Wilson.
The Panthers have a ferocious running back force in Jeffery Vercher, and a reliable gunslinger in Sean Casey.
It’s Casey who took the spotlight in the team’s 48-13 victory over Goodpasture this past week, and his outrageously-good performance earns him our City Cafe Player of the Week honor.
Casey had 145 yards and three touchdowns in the air, and rushed for 183 yards and another score on the ground.
Vercher aided him with 134 yards and a score, a continued example of why he’s been one of the best running backs in the county this season.
The team faces its toughest part of the schedule ahead, with an away trip to BGA set for Friday and a season-ending home game with CPA to close the slate.
The Panthers have a great opportunity to really drive home their quality against those teams, and they’ll be major factors for the team as playoff seeding gets underway here soon.
But, for now, we salute Casey for his week-best performance, another reason why no one should sleep on FRA going down the stretch.
Page QB Cade Walker helped will his team to a key victory over region foe Summit. He had 146 passing yards for two touchdowns, with Patriots running back Bubba Watson rushing for 143 yards and a score.
Spartans reserve QB Keaten Wade ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Brentwood QB Cade Granzow had 206 yards and two TD throws in the team’s victory against Independence.
CPA running back Tyler Reid had 126 yards on 23 attempts in the team’s win against Lipscomb Academy.
Ravenwood QB Brian Garcia scored three touchdowns in one quarter in the team’s sound defeat of Dickson Co.
Brentwood Academy QB Tayler Montiel threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns in the Eagles’ loss to Knox Catholic. RB Jordan James had 130 yards and a touchdown.
Franklin running back Guy Lipscomb rushed for 271 yards and a touchdown in the team’s double overtime “Battle of Franklin” win over Centennial. QB Joshua Nichols threw for 179 yards and a score.
For Centennial, QB Grayson Marcel had 152 yards and the score, and running back Desmond Smith had 99 yards on the ground. WR Kevin Townsel had two touchdowns in the air with his 63 yards.
