Banners were hanging over the Las Palmas signs on the building at 9040 Carothers Parkway in Franklin, ladders were visible through the windows, and a pickup truck with Florida plates was parked out front on Friday.
Final preparations were going on for a new restaurant, according to Chef Reuben Sliva, a southern Illinois native who has worked in fine dining for more than a decade in Georgia and South Florida. The Southern eclectic restaurant, led by the James Beard recognized chef, will open its doors to the public on Monday, September 24.

“We’ve been planning this for a year since I sold my business in Fort Myers, Florida,” Sliva said. “We moved here in July. We have four daughters and wanted to be here for the schools.”

The restaurant will be called Franklin Soul. Sliva says the menu is inspired by traditional Southern barbeque, soul food, and Cajun cooking.
“This is the best location to open Franklin Soul,” he said. “We want to provide great, made from scratch local Southern cuisine in a fun, family-friendly environment without breaking the bank and Franklin is the perfect place.”
“We are excited to welcome Franklin Soul into the neighborhood,” said Devin McClendon, president of NAI Nashville Leasing and Property Management . “Chef Reuben has an amazing concept and we are thrilled to have him as a tenant on Carothers Parkway.”
Franklin Soul is a neighborhood gathering spot designed for friends and families to meet and indulge in offerings created straight from the heart of the Chef while enjoying local craft beers, a full bar, and live entertainment.
“Pretty much all our dishes are our signature dishes. At our place in Florida, we were named fourth in the country for barbecue. We have killer gumbo and awesome home cooking dishes such as meatloaf.”
The grand opening for the restaurant is scheduled for October 12.
Franklin Soul will be located in the Shoppes of Carothers, a retail shopping center that holds a mix of national and local tenants. NAI Nashville’s  SIOR and Trey Kirby, CCIM represented the landlord, Carothers Shops LLC. in the transaction.
