Centennial quartet stand tall as Players of the Week

The Centennial Cougars indeed saved their season Friday night against Independence, with four standout offensive performances chipping in to the eye-opening 62-point team performance.

Junior QB Grayson Marcel had his best game of the season, throwing for 395 yards and four touchdowns. RB Jariel “Wowo” Wilson ran for 276 yards and had four touchdowns of his own, also adding a 16-yard catch.

Senior WR Ahsharri Haynesworth posed up 210 yards on 11 catches and a three touchdowns. Senior wideout Joey Gustafson added in 82 yards on eight catches.

That’s a lot of offense, if you were curious.

The Centennial quartet of Marcel, Wilson, Haynesworth and Gustafson earn our Home Page Player of the Week honors.

Though they didn’t get to where they wanted to go with the win, Independence QB Nathan Cisco threw for 403 yards and two touchdowns against Centennial, and WR T.J. Sheffield had 181 yards in the air and two touchdowns, 15 yards on the ground and a touchdown and a 98-yard kick return for a touchdown (four in total). Those two should be regular staples in this feature; they’re having great years so far.

Ravenwood QB Brian Garcia had 212 yards and three touchdowns in his comeback win over Franklin, keeping the Raptors at 3-0 on the season. Franklin RB Matt Gaca had 147 yards on offense in the loss.

BGA QB Nick Semptimphelter willed a commanding 328 yards and four touchdowns against Goodpasture, with RB Kaleb Seay joining in with 178 on the ground and two touchdowns. Quite a night for the Wildcats.

Summit’s RB George Odimegwu continues to impress with 150 yards of total offense and three touchdowns against White County.
