A Texas real estate services company announced the purchase of a Brentwood title and escrow company on Tuesday.

Southland Title and Escrow Co. from Brentwood was sold to Stewart Information Services Corporation, which is based in Houston, Texas.

Southland previously sold title insurance underwritten by Stewart. Now, the company will be part of Stewart’s direct operations in Middle Tennessee. The company was founded in Brentwood in 1996.

Marsha Ragsdale, one of the previous owners of Southland, said the sale shouldn’t affect customers in Middle Tennessee.

“We will continue to operate in this market under Southland. All of our customers and future customers will really see no difference in their service,” she said. “They’ll be dealing with the same employees they were dealing with a week ago.”

Ragsdale plans to stay on as a director of the Southland division of Stewart Title. She said the purchase should help current employees because Stewart will be able to offer better benefits.

Stewart’s stock price rose by about three quarters of a percent on Tuesday.
