BASKETBALL: Fairview boys win 11-AA title, BGA girls end year at USJ

Fairview boys win second-straight district title 

The Fairview High School Yellow Jackets are taking a new plaque home, though it’ll look similar to one they added last year.

The team repeated as 11-AA district champions Tuesday night in a 74-56 win over Camden.

The Yellow Jackets are 28-2 this year following the victory.

Standout D.J. Estes was named a Co-District MVP for the regular season, while WillCo Basketball Player of the Year finalist Trent Turner, Bill Eads and Mason McGowan were named All-District players.

Trey McCoy was 11-AA’s Co-Head Coach of the Year.

Estes was named the tournament’s MVP, while Turner, Kam Harris-Lusk and Locke Horde were named All-Tournament players.

The team will now move on to the region tournament this weekend.

BGA Lady Wildcats close season at USJ 

The Battle Ground Academy Lady Wildcats exited the first round of the D-II A State Tournament with a 65-50 loss to University School of Jackson.

Kyah Keller had 21 for BGA in the loss, while Ella Rose Gallimore had 10 and WillCo Basketball Player of the Year finalist Kearstyn Seay had eight.
