On Sunday, July 28, and Monday, July 29, at 6 p.m., auditions for Ron Hutchinson’s comedy Moonlight and Magnolias will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Otey Hall in Franklin.
Actors do not have to attend both nights, according to a release. Actors must participate in a cold reading from the script — headshots and resumes are welcome, but not required.
Set in the golden age of Hollywood, Moonlight and Magnolias “is a riotous, behind-the-scenes peek at the making of what many consider the greatest movie ever made…that almost wasn’t!” The comedy explores whether a producer with a lot to prove, his serene secretary, a hot director with an even hotter temper and a screenwriter set for success create movie magic, or will their chances be “gone with the wind?”
The play contains the following roles:
David O. Selznick — male, 35-55 — Renowned Hollywood producer, living under the shadow of his father-in-law, Louis B. Mayer (one of the “M”s in MGM). Must be energetic, good with physical comedy.
Ben Hecht — male, 35-55 — Hollywood screenwriter, brainy, sarcastic, ex-journalist from Chicago
Victor Fleming – male, 35-60 — Hollywood director, intimidating, has something of a temper
Miss Poppenghul — female, 18-65 — long-suffering assistant of Mr. Selznick
