Lanie Vantrease, daughter of Gary and Ashley Vantrease, is our Jet’s Pizza Female Athlete of the Week for Page High School. Lanie is a junior at Page High School and a member of the girl’s volleyball team. She plays the positions of middle, outside and right side.
She has had 152 kills and a 419 hit percentage.
Vantrease began playing volleyball in the 4th grade as something fun to do, but she said she quickly realized she wanted to quit all other sports to pursue volleyball more seriously.
While many seek outward validation to succeed, Vantrease’s will to win comes from within. When asked what inspires her to train and compete, she said, “Ever since I became serious about the sport I’ve created a lot of goals for myself and looked for a future in it, which keeps me motivated as well as love for the game.”
Vantrease says her biggest role model is her mother, Ashley. She said, “She is the best person I know and she’s everything I hope I can be.”
Vantrease’s coach, Rick Hess said, “Lanie is a very determined young lady. She is a player who is always trying to do her best and improve on her skills every day. She is a hard worker on and off the court. She has a 4.5 GPA and her teachers love her hard work. She is a very enthusiastic player and is always there for her teammates… I love having her on my team.”
She describes herself as driven, so it comes as no surprise that she plans to get a full ride scholarship to play volleyball at the D1 level. Wherever she ends up, she plans to study athletic training.
