GiGi Maddox, daughter of Denise and Garry Maddox, is this week’s Jet’s Pizza Female Athlete of the Week.
She is a senior at Page High School and a member of the varsity girls cross country team. She runs in the 5k.
This year, she came in third place in MSCCA, second place in TSSAA Region large schools and set a new school record.
Maddox started running after following in her brother’s footsteps. “I wanted to run like him,” she said.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “Training hard makes me better… Running better means I compete at a higher level.”
As far as a role model, she said she does not have a specific person she can pinpoint. In general, however, she said she likes “watching runners compete and overcome their individual adversities.”
One of Maddox’s coaches said of her, “GiGi’s heart, mind and legs are one! The strength she has is amazing. The determination and drive she has is something all athletes should strive to have and keep…. I am so glad she has been a part of Page High.
After finishing at PHS, Maddox said she plans to run track and cross country for Auburn University. She would like to pursue a degree in business and afterwards, go to seminary with a focus in missions.
