Whitney Bryant, daughter of Treva and Doug Bryant, is a senior at Franklin High School and this week’s Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Varsity Track & Field Team and competes in the 400 meter, 800 meter, 4×400 relay and 4×800 relay. Bryant said that since the season only recently began, she is still working towards her big goals. Her personal record in the 400 meter is 58.18. In the 800 meter, it is 2:18. For the last three years, she has qualified for the State track meet and said she plans to go this year as well.
Bryant credits her mother for her start in the sport. “My mom ran track and threw me in when I was in sixth grade and I fell in love with it,” she said.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “I love seeing hard work pay off. I love pushing my body to the limits and then seeing the rewards.” She said that her team is also a great source of inspiration. “They are so supportive and I know that they always have my back.”
Head Track Coach Jaimie Carolan said of Bryant, “She ran four races in Scott Hartman and finished top three in all of them… exceptional athlete who pushes herself every day and leads by example. She never gives up and leaves it all out on the track.”
She said that her mother, Treva, is her biggest role model. “I look up to my mom in evert aspect of life,” she said. “She is constantly putting others before herself. She also is the perfect example of how to treat people every day.”
After graduating this spring, she will attend Brigham Young University. She plans to study Therapeutic Recreation.
