Sydney Harris, daughter of Glenn and Daphne Harris, is a freshman at Franklin High School and this week’s Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Girls Softball Team and plays the position of pitcher.
Harris started playing tee ball when she was only six years old and her passion for the sport grew from there.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “I love playing softball and competing in sports in general. After being out for over 10 months after my knee surgery last year, I don’t want to take playing sports or softball for granted. So I try to make the most of each opportunity, even if I’m just pitching in my backyard.”
Harris said her biggest role models are her parents and coaches.
“I look up to my parents and coaches because they are so selfless and will give up so much of their time to help me achieve my goals. I hope to be as unselfish and giving as I get older.”
Head Softball Coach Lyndsey Consiglio said of Harris, “Sydney is a stellar freshman who was 2 for 4 with two doubles and four RBI’s in our season opener against Ravenwood. Sydney was also the starting and winning pitcher of the game tallying 9 strikeouts and only allowing five hits.”
After graduating from FHS, Harris plans to continue her softball career in college.
