Tanner Peterson, son of Jeramie and Leslie Peterson, is a sophomore at Fairview High School and a member of the boys cross country team.
He was the runner up in Regionals this year and has a personal record of 18:14 in a 5k.
He started running track in middle school, but said that when he moved to Fairview, soccer was in the spring, so he had to switch to cross country.
“In track was when I realized I was good at running, especially when I got 4:59 in the 1500 meter run,” Peterson said.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete, he simply said, “I always want to be the best.”
FHS cross country coach said of Peterson, “Tanner is an extremely dedicated and focused young man. He has many daily demands to fulfill; he does so with an intense approach. He is very gifted as a long distance runner and is an anchor for our team.”
After finishing at FHS, he plans to attend college and play soccer and possibly run track there. He said he would like to eventually go pro in soccer, but if that doesn’t work out, he wants to pursue a career in either business or directing movies.
