Maggie McGowan, daughter of Brad and Melissa McGowan, is a junior at Fairview High School and the captain of the girls bowling team.
This season, she led the team to an 11-3 season record and a district 9 runner-up title. For the first time in school history, the team will be bowling in the Region 5 tournament in January. McGowan finished the season with a 123 average with a high game of 219 and a high series of 578. She also bowled four games over 200 during the course of the season.
As many do, she said she started bowling just for fun and ended up really enjoying it.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said that she is always thinking about how to improve the team and also to keep having fun.
Her biggest role models and inspirations are her parents, Melissa and Brad. She said that they instilled in her how to work hard and do her best and she really appreciates them for it.
FHS bowling coach said of McGowan, “Maggie is a joy to coach and be around. Her drive, hard work and dedication make everyone around her better. Aside from being an incredible bowler, she is an excellent leader and person.”
After finishing at FHS next year, she plans to attend Vanderbilt University to pursue a career in a field that will allow her to help others.
